RESOLUTION - Expressing commitment to a community-wide goal of 100% clean, renewable energy and opposition to new fossil fuel extraction and commodity market-access transportation projects; directing the City Manager to begin the process of establishing sector-by-sector targets for 100% clean, renewable energy and an inclusive Climate Action Planning process within the next year; stating an intention to lobby other governments to work towards 100% clean, renewable energy; and reaffirming the City’s commitment to Resolution No. 150965.


NEIGHBORHOODS AND PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE recommends "IMMEDIATE ADOPTION"
Dennis Murphy from the Kansas City Environmental division and John Fish-Kurmann from 350kc.org gave a brief overview of the need for the action on 100% renewable energy; and recognizing the threat of city-wide climate change and the changes that can be implemented locally. A transition to 100% renewable energy can bring underserved communities, including those hardest hit by climate change, into the political process, to develop more equitable and sustainable energy systems and a transition to 100% renewable energy. Also to facilitate more democratic control and public ownership of energy systems also equal relationships with indigenous communities and tribal governments and sets a goal to go 100% renewable energy citywide for Kansas City.

 1. Kansas City Public Schools Security Updates by Dr. Luis Cordoba.
 
 Dr. Luis Cordoba revised his initial presentation from Public School Security updates to Division of Student Support Services, Plaza Communitaria also known as Community Plaza. The division of student support is aimed at raising the living standard of the Latino community. Contributing factors are: educational opportunities, social and emotional support, informational student forums about DACA and immigration professional development for teachers. Initiatives in the planning stages are trauma sensitive schools initiatives at East High School, meditation for teachers and students, La Honda student led newsletter and essential Spanish for teachers. An electronic version of this presentation can be obtained from the City Clerks Office.
 
 2. There may be a general discussion regarding current Neighborhoods and Public Safety issues.
 
 3. Pursuant to the following subsections of Section 610.021 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri, there may be a closed session to discuss: (1) legal matters, litigation, or privileged communications with attorneys, pursuant to subsection 1; (2) real estate, pursuant to subsection 2; (3) personnel, pursuant to subsection 3 and 13; and/or (4) sealed bids or proposals, pursuant to subsection 12.
