Authorizing the City Manager to execute the Second Amendment of a contract with the Metropolitan Energy Center to further the EnergyWorks KC program.


NEIGHBORHOODS & HEALTHY COMMUNITIES COMMITTEE recommends "DO PASS"
Dennis Murphy, Chief Officer Environmental Management, he explained that this ordinance would allows the third and final year of the EnergyWorks KC program. It was a part of the (ARRA 2009). Its purpose was to promote and assist with cost associated with implementing energy efficiency upgrades for residential, business, industrial and institutional buildings. Bob Housh, Metropolitan Energy Center was also present and testified relating to the program services. He and Mr. Murphy commented that the top energy savings efforts would be insulation, lighting, heating and cooling upgrades. They talked about the targeted neighborhood ( green impact zone) for one part of the program and six others that are receiving funding: Ruskin, Eastwood Hills, Washington Wheatley, Windwood, West Bottoms and Westside. They commented there are free Eco Kits available, low or no cost energy audits and rebates and incentive for interested parties. Councilman Wagner asked if this was the last round of funding. Mr. Murphy stated that it was the hope of the Federal Government and of his department is that the program would have gained enough momentum to continue and be self sustaining.
