Amending Chapter 54, Code of Ordinances, by adding a new Article V, Secondary Metal Recyclers.

NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING COMMITTEE recommends "HOLD ON AGENDA (2/13/2008)"
David Park, Neighborhood and Community Services, stated that this item was from the semi-annual docket established by the previous Council. It deals with scrap metal recycling businesses. Councilwoman Jolly said that a number of other City Officials and citizens have expressed concerns and requested to be apart of the process, dealing with this ordinance. Councilwoman Curls asked how many businesses of this type were in Kansas City. Mr. Majors said he believed that there were less than ten. She added that it shouldn't be hard to monitor them. The Committee agreed to hold the item until February 27th, 2008 to allow time to review information and to gather all the concerned parties for a presentation to be given at the meeting.

PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEIGHBORHOODS COMMITTEE recommends "HOLD ON AGENDA (2/13/2008)"
David Park, Neighborhood and Community Services, explained that the ordinance before the Committee addressed the issue of an attorney/hearing officer for the new rental property register program. Mr Park stated that there had been a RFP for the position and they have not found a suitable candidate. He said the position would be part time. The Committee agreed that the RFP should go out again and that the issue should be taken up in a month.
