Amending Chapter 50, Code of Ordinances, by repealing Section 50-263, Discharging firearms generally, by enacting in lieu thereof one new section that allows the discharge of weapons on airport property pursuant to a wildlife management program.


AVIATION COMMITTEE recommends "ADVANCE AND DO PASS"
Russ Widmar, Director of Aviation, testified on behalf of this ordinance. He stated that this ordinance was to help control the white tail deer population at the airport. Mr. Widmar stated that the US Department of Agriculture, Wildlife Services had helped conduct a survey of the area and came up with 4 alternatives to the problem. He stated that the options were hiring sharpshooters, a control public hunt, a higher fence or poisoning. Of the options, the sharpshooters idea was selected. Councilmember Riley questioned if other cities were using this type of program. David Wiley, Department of Agriculture, stated that while he could not give specific city names, he had worked with other cities in the past. The Committee recommended advanced this ordinance to the full council.

Authorizing a $2,400,000.00 Amendment No. 3 for construction administration services to an agreement with HNTB Corporation for Project No. C11 - Terminal Improvements at Kansas City International Airport and the expenditure of previously appropriated funds in the amount of $2,400,000.00.


AVIATION COMMITTEE recommends "DO PASS"
Russ Widmar, Director of Aviation, testified on behalf of this ordinance. He stated that the MBE/WBE goals were higher on this project than the ones that were required. He also answered questions regarding disabled access. Michelle Olms,Office of disabilities, stated that all recommendations and requirements for disability standards had been met. The Committee recommended Do Pass.
