Authorizing a $2,708,224.00 contract with Abatement Systems, Inc., for Project No. 20010075 - Asbestos Abatement at Kansas City International Airport and the expenditure of previously appropriated funds in the amount of $2,984,994.56.


AVIATION COMMITTEE recommends "DO PASS"
Phil Brown, Deputy Director of Aviation, was present to testify on behalf of this ordinance. He stated that as part of the terminal improvements at KCI asbestos would have to be removed from underneath the sidewalks. He stated that the bids reflected the market. Chair Loar stated that she didn't know that there could be asbestos under the sidewalks. Mr. Brown answered her question, stating that it was because of the communication cables underneath the sidewalk that asbestos was located there.

Authorizing a $1,533,579.00 Amendment No. 2 to an Agreement with S.K. Design Group, Inc., for Project No. C86 - New Parking Area North of Bern Street at Kansas City International Airport and the expenditure of previously appropriated funds in the amount of $1,693,579.00.


AVIATION COMMITTEE recommends "ADVANCE AND DO PASS"
Phil Brown, Deputy Director of Aviation, was present to testify on behalf of this ordinance. He stated that SK Design would be conducting work on the new parking lot to provide improving access to the shuttle parking lot. Member Asjes questioned why the bid came in $300,000 over the estimate. Phil Muncie, Aviation, answered for Mr. Brown stating that SK Design would be doing more work than originally estimated to improve the shuttle access. Mr. Brown requested that the ordinance be advanced.

Authorizing a $9,029,233.00 contract with Ferranti Air Systems LTD (FASL) for Project No. 2001C11K - Systems Integrator/Multi-User Flight Information Display System - Terminal Improvement Project at Kansas City International Airport; authorizing expenditure of previously appropriated funds in the amount of $6,718,326.00; and appropriating funds in the amount of $891,844.26.


AVIATION COMMITTEE recommends "ADVANCE AND DO PASS"
Phil Brown, Deputy Director of Aviation, was present to testify on behalf of this ordinance. He stated that multi-user flight data systems would be installed airport-wide and that they would allow for audio and video paging. He further stated that SWB would work under Ferranti on the installation of the new system and integrate it with the old systems. Member Asjes questioned why the bid was $3 million over the estimate. Mr. Brown stated that generally telecommunications is underestimated and that this bid included software and hardware and maintenance not previously included. Member Rowland stated that 3 years worth of maintenance was included in the bid and that the software was on the budget but that the maintenance was not included. Mr.. Brown stated that the airport currently does not operate any of the flight information boards and requested advance for this ordinance.
