ORDINANCE NO. 000727

Authorizing execution of certain contracts for economic development, small business assistance services, and contractor assistance services for the following not-for-profit corporations in the following amounts: Black Economic Union - $223,373.00; Black Economic Union - $157,940.00; Hispanic Economic Development Corporation - $170,000.00; and Minority Contractors Association of Greater Kansas City, Inc. - $150,000.00.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the Director of the Department of Housing and Community Development is hereby authorized to execute a contract with the Black Economic Union, in the amount of $223,373.00, for the purpose of providing funds for economic development services to be paid from funds previously appropriated to Account Nos. 01-261-055-2030-B, Development Assistance - BEU ($200,000.00) and 01-100-055-2030-B, Development Assistance - BEU ($23,373.00). A copy of the contract, in substantial form, is attached hereto and is hereby approved.

Section 2. That the Director of the Department of Housing and Community Development is hereby authorized to execute a contract with the Black Economic Union, in the amount of $157,940.00, for the purpose of providing funds for operations of the Economic Growth Incubator, the Business Solutions Center Resource Library, Small Business Equal Opportunities Program, Business Development Center and Kansas City Connects (HUB Net) at the Lincoln Building at 1601 East 18th Street to be paid from funds previously appropriated to Account Nos. 01-261-055-2010-B, Small Business Equal Opportunities Program ($104,949.00) and 01-100-055-2061-B, MOBOC Grant ($52,991.00). A copy of the contract, in substantial form, is attached hereto and is hereby approved.

Section 3. That the Director of the Department of Housing and Community Development is hereby authorized to execute a contract with the Hispanic Economic Development Corporation, in the amount of $170,000.00, for the purpose of providing funds for economic development services to be paid from funds previously appropriated to Account No. 01-261-055-2070-B, Hispanic Economic Development Corporation. A copy of the contract, in substantial form, is attached hereto and is hereby approved.

Section 4. That the Director of the Department of Housing and Community Development is hereby authorized to execute a contract with the Minority Contractors Association of Greater Kansas City, Inc., in the amount of $150,000.00, for the purpose of providing funds for a small contractors assistance program to be paid from funds previously appropriated to Account No. 01-261-055-2020-B, Contractor Assistance. A copy of the contract, in substantial form, is attached hereto and is hereby approved.

I hereby certify that there is a balance, otherwise unencumbered, to the credit of the appropriation to which the foregoing expenditure is to be charged, and a cash balance, otherwise unencumbered, in the treasury, to the credit of the fund from which payment is to be made, each sufficient to meet the obligation hereby incurred.
