Honoring Vicki Richmond on being nominated for the Clearwater Award.


WHEREAS, the “Clearwater Award” recognizes the outstanding efforts of an individual or individuals, or by non-profit citizen’s organizations, working at the grassroots level for the betterment of their community and its waterfront; and


WHEREAS, Vicki Richmond is part of Missouri River Relief, a grassroots, volunteer and equipment-based organization dedicated to reconnecting people to the Missouri River through hands-on river clean-ups and educational events; and


WHEREAS, this group has put together a coalition of public, private and citizen stewards that use a barge for massive Missouri River cleanup-up and to date has now hosted 55 Missouri River clean-ups, bringing 12,000 volunteers together to clean 537 tons of trash from 588 miles of the river; and

WHEREAS, Missouri River Relief has hosted 15 Missouri River Learning Festivals, bringing together corporate, scientific, agency and non-profit experts to teach 8,612 middle school students about water issues right on the banks of one of the nation’s largest river systems; and


WHEREAS, Vicki helped to create the Port Authority’s River Otter Day cleanup and has led this effort for four successful years; NOW, THEREFORE,




That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Vicki Richmond on being nominated for the Clearwater Award; and


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Vicki Richmond with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for her outstanding service to the community and our waterfronts.
