RESOLUTION NO. 920603
Designating June 1 to June 6, 1992 as Food Safety Week in
Kansas City.
WHEREAS, the incidence of food-borne illness is
increasing and calls for greater consumer awareness of the proper procedures
for handling and preparing food in the home and for consumers to be alert for
proper sanitation in the stores where they shop; and
WHEREAS, food-borne disease is especially acute for
the elderly and the very young, requiring extreme care in cooking and
maintaining food at the proper temperature; and
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Health Department is
commended for its continued vigilance in protecting the shopping public from
unsanitary conditions that can result in unsafe food, despite the continued
expansion of shopping hours of grocery stores and the increasing number of
establishments serving food that has stretched thin the Department's available
resources in a time of restricted budgets; and
WHEREAS, education of consumers on the
identification of potential sanitary problems in food stores and establishments
serving food can augment the resources of the Health Department; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby designate June 1
to June 6, 1992 as Food Safety Week in Kansas City and commend the activities
of the Kansas City Consumer Alliance in educating the citizens of our community
on food safety; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be
spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that copies
hereof be presented to the Alliance and to its member organizations in token of
the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for their efforts to make Kansas City
a more healthful city.
