RESOLUTION NO. 050727

 

Declaring June 16-17, 2005, as Healthy Habits Days for all Kansas Citians

 

WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through its Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH 2010) national initiative seeks to address racial and ethnic disparities among high risk populations; and

 

WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has funded a cooperative agreement with the Missouri Primary Care Association (MPCA) and its Kansas City Chronic Disease Coalition (KC-CDC) for the past four years to implement a program commonly referred to as We Practice Healthy Habits/Nosotros Practicamos, Habitos Saludables; and

 

WHEREAS, this program works closely with the Kansas City, Missouris Health Department and the Mayors Health Commission to foster healthy habits promotions; and

 

WHEREAS, this initiative has chosen to broaden the concept of healthy habits to become a Healthy Habits Collaborative Umbrella network; and

 

WHEREAS, other partnering organizations, including the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), the Region VII office of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), UAW-Ford Community Health Care Initiative, the Kansas City Quality Improvement Consortium (KCQIC), Fox 4 WDAF-TV and many others have agreed to become a part of this Healthy Habits Collaborative Umbrella to jointly foster and promote healthy lifestyles among Kansas City residents; and

 

WHEREAS, over one hundred community-based organizations representing area African-American and Hispanic/Latino networks are also involved in healthy habits promotions; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare June 16 and 17, 2005, as Healthy Habits Days for all Kansas Citians; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies be presented to Maria Boudreaux, Catherine Davis, Andres Dominguez, Gabrielle Flores, Dorothy Matthews, and Mary Williams-Neal who serve as Co-Chairs of the Kansas City Chronic Disease Coalition and to CDC Representative Michael L. Sells, REACH 2010 Program Consultant.
