RESOLUTION NO. 090645

Directing the City Manager to develop a signature green solution to repair the South Plaza of City Hall, and use a design competition as a method to select this solution.

WHEREAS, the South Plaza of City Hall has fallen into severe disrepair, with many of its concrete tiles broken and crumbling; and

WHEREAS, City Hall is a historic art deco structure and, along with its grounds, serves as the center of the government district, and a symbol of our Citys government; and

WHEREAS, as this Council has, by prior actions, expressed its desire to become a leader in green solutions, it is only fitting that the City Hall grounds showcase a signature green solution; and

WHEREAS, a design competition for this signature green solution would display the talents and creativity of green designers in an emerging field; NOW, THEREFORE

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL:

Section 1. That the Council hereby directs the City Manager to develop a signature green solution to repair the South Plaza of City Hall, through use of a competition to design the signature green solution.

Section 2. That the City Manager is further directed to provide the City Council with the proposed signature green solution, including a cost estimate, funding plan, and implementation schedule.
