RESOLUTION NO. 040252

 

Declaring March as Severe Weather Preparedness Month.

 

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, is threatened by severe weather in the form of thunderstorms, tornados and flash floods; and

 

WHEREAS, March is a pivotal month for severe weather hazards; and

 

WHEREAS, these hazards threaten life, property, the environment and our economic well-being; and

 

WHEREAS, all segments of our community should be prepared to reduce or eliminate the negative consequences of these hazards; and

 

WHEREAS, the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency has designated March as Disaster Preparedness Month; and

 

WHEREAS, the National Weather Service has set March 15-19 as Missouri Severe Weather Awareness Week and will be conducting a Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. If there is inclement weather, the alternate date will be Thursday, March 18, 2004, at 1:30 p.m.; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare the month of March, 2004, as Severe Weather Preparedness Month for the City of Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to The Citys Emergency Manager, D.A. Christina, with the advice to all citizens, businesses and government agencies to be aware of the threats posed by thunderstorms, tornados and flash floods, to be familiar with methods of keeping apprized of threatening situations, and to be prepared to minimize the negative impact of these hazards should they occur.
