Honoring
the Reverend Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfields 50 years of preaching.
WHEREAS,
Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church Family is blessed to celebrate the 50th preaching
anniversary of their Pastor, the Reverend Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield at a
reception dinner on Saturday, April 15, 2000, 6:30 p.m. at their Fellowship
Hall at the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS,
after three years in the United States Armed Services, Dr. Hartsfield entered
Clark College in Atlanta, Georgia, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree
in Elementary Education with minors in Religion and Psychology. He was listed
in Whos Who in America Colleges and Universities in his Junior and Senior
Years and in 1954, he entered Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta from which
he graduated with degrees of Bachelor and Master of Divinity; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Hartsfield has held pastorates in South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kansas
and since 1972 in Kansas City, Missouri at the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist
Church; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Hartsfield is the second Vice-President of the National Baptist Convention
of America, Inc., past President of the General Baptist State Convention of
MO/KS/NE, Chairman of The Congress of National Black Churches and Chairman of
the Economic Development Commission of the National Baptist Convention of
America, Inc.; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council congratulate the Reverend Dr. Wallace S.
Hartsfield for his 50 years of preaching and service to the community; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the
Reverend Dr. Wallace S. Hartsfield in token of the appreciation of the Mayor
and Council and in celebration of 50 years of preaching and service to the
community.
