RESOLUTION NO. 180517

 

Supporting and celebrating the Health Department for winning the 2018 Local Health Department of the Year Award.

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Health Department has improved the health of the community through operational excellence in public health, addressing on the root causes of health inequity in the social, political, and economic system and developing proven strategies to build and sustain permanent alliances with communities and partners; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Department has worked with other City leaders to include a new City-wide business plan objective that clearly identified improvements in overall life expectancy and decreasing the inequities between six specific zip codes and the rest of the city as a priority; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Department has created the “LifeX” movement under leadership of the City Manager to engage City and community partners to instill the values of health equity throughout City government; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Department has established the first LifeX Resident Study Cohort in partnership with Parks and Recreation and the University of Missouri to study the impact of community center access on quality of life; and

WHEREAS, the Health Department has worked with local and national leaders in technological innovation to leverage predictive analytics, gamification and geofencing to ensure that efforts are transparent and efficient; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Department has convened a cross-sector group of leaders to develop a City policy platform aimed at improving intergenerational wealth transfer and decreasing income and wealth inequities by race and place; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby support and celebrate the Health Department for winning the 2018 Local Health Department of the Year Award; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Health Department with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for their successful efforts and work in making the health of Kansas Citians a priority.
