RESOLUTION 011751

Directing the City Manager to provide refunds of ticket prices paid by people unable to obtain tickets in a timely manner to the Guardians Classic basketball games at Kemper Arena because of difficulties encountered in obtaining tickets previously ordered from the will-call windows, and directing the City Manager to report to the Mayor and City Council within 30 days of the steps taken to implement this refund, and the status of the refund process.

WHEREAS, the Guardians Classic basketball tournament was held for the first time at Kemper Arena; and

WHEREAS, a combination of factors resulted in many fans being unable to attend much of the Iowa - Memphis game; and

WHEREAS, a primary factor was the Citys inability to meet the demand of persons seeking tickets at the will-call window; and

WHEREAS, to indicate to the National Association of Basketball Coaches, fans inconvenienced by the will-call window failure, and to all others interested in attending events at Kemper Arena and other City facilities that the City understands the shortcomings of the ticket distribution for that night; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the City Manager is directed to provide refunds of ticket prices paid by people unable to obtain tickets to the Guardians Classic basketball games at Kemper Arena in a timely manner because of their inability to obtain tickets previously ordered from the Citys will-call windows.

Section 2. That the City Manager will report to the Mayor and City Council within 30 days of adoption of this resolution the steps taken to implement the refund directed by Section 1, and the status of the refund process.
