ORDINANCE NO. 980796
Amending
Chapter 56, Code of Ordinances of the City of Kansas City, Missouri, by
repealing Section 56-539, Permits, and enacting in lieu thereof one new section
of like number and subject matter regulating the issuance of building permits
for dangerous buildings.

IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section
1. That Chapter 56, Code of Ordinances of the City of Kansas City, Missouri,
is hereby amended by repealing Section 56-539, Permits, and enacting one
new section, to read as follows:
Sec.
56-539. Permits.
(a) Building permits must be obtained in accordance with the Building Code of
Kansas City, Missouri. However, demolition permits may be issued without a
certificate of appropriateness from the Landmarks Commission for buildings
designated as a historic landmark or located within a local historic district
which have been declared dangerous buildings and ordered demolished in
accordance with this article.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person, other than the owner, to salvage or
cause or allow any other person to salvage a building which has been ordered
demolished without first obtaining written authorization of the director of
neighborhood and community services.
(c) It shall be unlawful for the owner to salvage or cause or allow any other
person to salvage a building which has been ordered demolished once the notice
to proceed has been issued to the contractor by the department.
