RESOLUTION NO. 970400

Congratulating Dr. Malaika B. Horne upon her election as Board President of the University of Missouri Board of Curators.

WHEREAS, the Curators elected Dr. Malaika B. Horne of St. Louis as 1997 Board president; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Horne received a bachelor's degree in sociology from UM-St. Louis, a master's in urban affairs and a doctorate in public policy analysis and administration from St. Louis University, as well as a degree in psychiatric epidemiology from the Washington University School of Medicine; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Horne is chief operations officer at Haley Travel Service. Since 1991 she has served as an adjunct professor at Webster University, teaching classes on cultural pluralism. Dr. Horne also is president of Fully Realized Characters, Inc., which focuses on management of cultural sensitivity training for non-profit agencies; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Dr. Malaika B. Horne, newly elected Board President of the University of Missouri Board of Curators; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dr. Malaika B. Horne with the best wishes of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City.
