COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR RESOLUTION NO. 030594

 

Authorizing an application to the Missouri Development Finance Board for the preliminary authorization of state tax credits in the amount not to exceed $25,000,000.00 to support fund-raising efforts for capital improvements at the Metropolitan Kansas City Performing Arts Center.

 

WHEREAS, the Council has given a high priority to the development of the Metropolitan Performing Arts Center as the centerpiece of the Citys plan and strategy to redevelop and grow its downtown; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council intends to provide a wide variety of educational, social and cultural opportunities for the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the Council expresses its intention to support the concept of economic development at the Metropolitan Kansas City Performing Arts Center to be located at 1601 Broadway between 15th and 17th Streets and between Broadway and Baltimore.

 

Section 2. That the Council states that the Metropolitan Performing Arts Center and the Citys expansion of its convention facilities together will greatly benefit downtown Kansas City, Missouri, by the addition of new jobs, the retention of jobs and businesses, and the encouragement of a new entertainment district.

 

Section 3. That the Council states that the Metropolitan Kansas City Performing Arts Center will benefit the public by providing recreational and cultural opportunities for the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri.

 

Section 4. That the Council authorizes an application in the amount not to exceed $25,000,000.00 from the Missouri Development Finance Board for financing through the Sate Tax Credit for Contribution Program.
