Congratulating Marion Woodward, Ms. Black Missouri
crowned National Ms. Black USA Metroplex 1995-96.
WHEREAS, Marian Woodward, the reigning Ms. Black
Missouri Metroplex was crowned National Ms. Black USA Metroplex 1995-96 in
Houston, Texas, September 2nd at the Heinen Theatre and will represent African
American women around the country. She is a thirty-one (31) year old native of
Missouri and a student at Penn Valley Community College, maintaining a 4.0 GPA;
and
WHEREAS, Marian Woodward competed against nine other
contestants from Texas, Connecticut, Kansas, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts,
Michigan, Oklahoma and Tennessee. The first runner-up is Valecia Brooks, Ms.
Black Florida, and the second runner-up is Parlisha Williams, Ms. Black Texas;
and
WHEREAS, Marian's platform is Literacy. She feels
that winning the title compliments her purpose of encouraging our youth to stay
in school and to resist drugs and crime. She continues to encourage all people
to reach and fulfill their dreams; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate
Marion Woodward for winning the Ms. Black USA pageant; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be
spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy
hereof be presented to Marion Woodward congratulating her on winning the Ms.
Black USA pageant and her commitment to youth and all people to reach and
fulfill their dreams.
