RESOLUTION NO. 140132

 

Recognizing Mr. E. Frank Ellis on his retirement as CEO of Swope Community Enterprises.

 

WHEREAS, Mr. E. Frank Ellis is retiring as the Chief Executive Officer of Swope Community Enterprises; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1969, Mr. Ellis founded what was then known as Model Cities Health Corporation in the basement of Metropolitan Baptist Church with the goal of providing primary health services to those in his community who fell through the cracks of the health care system; and

 

WHEREAS, Swope Health Services has grown to eight clinics throughout greater Kansas City, serving more than 55,000 patients annually, 90 percent of whom are below the poverty level; and

 

WHEREAS, over the last 45 years, the organization founded by Mr. Ellis has grown to include Swope Health Services, Swope Community Builders and Kansas City Home Care all working to provide solutions to improve the physical, behavioral, and economic well-being of individuals, families, and communities; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Ellis has been a civic leader working with organizations such as the Heart of American Boy Scouts, Rockhurst University, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, the EDC of Kansas City, the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, Starlight Theatre and the Midwest Research Institute Board of Trustees and Mr. Ellis was past chairman of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and Brush Creek Community Partners; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City looks forward to Mr. Ellis continuing to serve the community as Swope Community Enterprises Chairman Emeritus; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate and thank Mr. Ellis for his years of service to Swope Community Enterprises and the greater Kansa City community; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mr. Ellis with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City.
