RESOLUTION NO. 010053

 

Recognizing the completion of the Vivion Road Corridor Study; stating the Citys interest in working with the Missouri Departments of Transportation and Conservation, area economic development agencies, other local municipalities and counties, neighborhoods, and businesses towards achieving the goals stated in the Study; and directing the City Manager to consider the recommendations of the Study at such time as amendments to area plans are made within the Corridor.

 

WHEREAS, in 1997, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) commissioned the Vivion Road Corridor Study which was the first time that MoDOT has acquired state funding through a general appropriations fund for a planning study and the Vivion Road Corridor Study was completed in February 2000; and

 

WHEREAS, the Vivion Road Corridor Study area includes property located within two counties and seven municipalities including Riverside, Northmoor, North Kansas City , Gladstone, Claycomo, Pleasant Valley, Kansas City, Clay County and Platte County ; and

 

WHEREAS, the overriding goal of the Vivion Road Corridor Study is to promote different types of public amenities along the Corridor, to help promote and facilitate new development and redevelopment along the Corridor and to strengthen and enhance the viability of businesses and neighborhoods; and

 

WHEREAS, the resulting Vivion Vision is a synthesis of ideas generated from the Vivion Road Gang, Northland residents, local businesses and civic leaders, planning agencies, and Northland Neighborhoods, Inc., and includes ways for pedestrians, bicycles and people engaged in shopping, leisure and recreation to co-exist with automobile traffic in the Corridor and also included in the vision is full access to public transportation, aesthetic issues such as landscaped medians, and regional issues such as trails and connections to the major roadway network in the Northland; and

WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the hard work and firm commitment of the Vivion Road Gang, Northland residents, local business and civic leaders, planning agencies, and Northland Neighborhoods, Inc., which devoted their valuable time to participate in the Study; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council hereby expresses its support and commitment in working with the Missouri Departments of Transportation and Conservation, area economic development agencies, other local municipalities and counties, businesses and neighborhoods on the goals as recommended in the Study; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the Council hereby recognizes the completion of the Vivion Road Corridor Study and congratulates all parties for their hard work and firm commitment in completing the Study. A copy of the Study is on file with the City Clerks Office.


Section 2. That the Council hereby states its interest and commitment in working on the goals delineated in the Study with the Missouri Departments of Transportation and Conservation, area economic development agencies, other local municipalities and counties, neighborhoods and businesses in order to realize the enormous potential for the Vivion Road Corridor, including economic development opportunities.

 

Section 3. That the City Manager is hereby directed to consider the recommendations contained in the Study at such time as there are any amendments to existing area plans within the Corridor and to include any appropriate recommendations of the Study in any area plan amendment.
