congratulating the organization on 25 years of putting the public in
public policy
WHEREAS, on September 30, 2008,
Consensus celebrates 25 years of putting the public in public policy;
and
WHEREAS, Consensus was a
regional organization back when, as Walt Bodine said at its fifth annual
dinner, you could drive a truck across the state line but you couldnt roll an
idea across it; and
WHEREAS, Consensus has promoted
progress in metropolitan Kansas City by proving that regular citizens can learn
about issues, make hard choices, find innovative ways to solve problems, and
work towards action; and
WHEREAS, Consensus has grown
into an entrepreneurial nonprofit business with a national profile, studying
issues and engaging citizens on behalf of the local community, working with
organizations like MacNeil/Lehrer Productions and the Kettering Foundation on
national citizen engagement initiatives, and working on behalf of clients in
metro Kansas City and around the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, Consensus has been and
will continue to be a valuable resource for our community by helping leaders
and citizens find common ground for action; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF

25 years of putting the public in public policy; and
