RESOLUTION NO. 130192
Welcoming
the Renegades Indoor Football Team to Kansas City and Kemper Arena.
WHEREAS, the Kansas City Renegades indoor football
team is Kansas City’s newest professional sports team that will bring indoor
football back to Kemper Arena where the sport was first played here; and
WHEREAS,
the Renegades will begin their six home game season at 2:05 p.m. on March 17th
at Kemper Arena with a game against the Omaha Beef following tailgating and a
noon pre-game concert; and
WHEREAS,
the Renegades are part of a new ten team indoor football league (the Champions
Professional Indoor Football League) which includes teams in markets such as
Wichita, Topeka, Tulsa, Omaha, Lincoln and Sioux City; and
WHEREAS,
many of the players of Kansas City’s new team played high school football
locally and played in the NFL, NFL Europe, CLF or AFL and are hoping to restore
excitement and bring new memories to Kemper Arena with their brand of high
scoring, fast paced and hard hitting football; and
WHEREAS,
majority owner Jeremy Ploeger and minority owner Pastor Clayton Moore founded
the team to bring a championship to Kansas City and also to establish a strong
community presence and promote youth sports; and
WHEREAS,
the Renegades have put together a well-qualified staff including veteran head
coach Ken Matous who has coached championship arena football teams and has also
coached at East Carolina and Duke University; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council hereby welcome the Renegades to Kansas City and Kemper
Arena and wish them many successful seasons; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Owner
Jeremy Ploeger, General Manager Reggie Harris and Coach Ken Matous with the
appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for bringing new
entertainment and affordable family fun to our community.
