RESOLUTION

Congratulating the Alpha Omega Racerz, GigaMinds, Jr.
BannekerBots and Jr. Bobcatcians for their award-winning performances at the
44th Annual National Society of Black Engineers Pre-College Initiative
Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, on
April 25th and April 28th, these four teams will be representing Kansas City in
the FIRST Robotics World Festival and the National STEM League Racing Finals in
Detroit, Michigan and Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, the
Gigaminds won both the Champions Award and Strategy & Innovation Award
which earns them an invitation to compete for the FIRST Lego League Hydro
Challenge Championship; and
WHEREAS, the
Alpha Omega Racerz won the Community Outreach Award and earned an invitation to
the National Race Engineering Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Jr. BannekerBots and Jr. Bobcaticians from Benjamin Banneker
Charter Academy of Technology earned an invitation to the World Festival; and
WHEREAS, all of
the teams are upholding the NSBE mission to increase the number of culturally
responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and
positively impact the community; and
WHEREAS, the
aSTEAM Village mission to inspire students and families to pursue education and
career pathways in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Aerospace,
Architecture, and Math (STEaM), through community-based project learning
and innovative programs. These championship teams have come together as
advocates and living proof of the impact of 21st Century Project-Based
Learning; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the Alpha
Omega Racerz, GigaMinds, Jr. BannekerBots and Jr. Bobcatcians for their
award-winning performances at the 44th Annual National Society of Black
Engineers Pre-College Initiative Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this
Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and
that a copy hereof be presented to William Wells and Chester
Thompson team members from Alpha Omega Racerz, GigaMinds, Jr.
BannekerBots and Jr. Bobcatcians with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council
for the dedication being given to the youth of our community for opening up
pathways for education, career and entrepreneurial endeavors.
