RESOLUTION NO. 030571

 

In memory of Joe Farrell who passed away April 30, 2003.

 

WHEREAS, Joe Farrell passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2003; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe was born on February 3, 1949, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and moved to Kansas City in 1998; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe was co-host and founder of the Celtic Crossings Radio Show which featured the music and culture of the Irish and things going on in the local Irish community; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Padraic Pearse Division #I; the Harp and Shamrock Club and the Irish Northern Aid Committee; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe was deeply devoted to peace in Ireland and promoted local groups and individuals including the Elders, Bob Riederer and Eddie Delahunt; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe worked tirelessly to promote human and civil rights and to educate Americans about the tragic situation in Ireland; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby express their profound sorrow on the death of Joe Farrell; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Irish community of Kansas City and Ireland in token of genuine esteem and respect in which Joe Farrell was held, and in token of the deep and sincere sympathy hereby extended to his bereaved friends.
