RESOLUTION NO. 990393

 

Welcoming the National Society of Black Engineers 25th Annual Convention and Career Fair to Kansas City.

 

WHEREAS, the National Society of Black Engineers had its genesis at a national conference planned and hosted by the Society of Black Engineers at Purdue University in April, 1974. From the six founding members, NSBE has grown to include over 10,000 pre-college, university and professional members in over 350 chapters; and

 

WHEREAS, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Annual National Convention. Twenty-five years ago, NSBE was a dream in the eyes of proud, young black engineering students. Today it is the premier technical community service organization serving African-American students, technical professionals and the community at large; and

 

WHEREAS, the NSBE Career Fair is the largest minority technical career fair in the country with over 300 exhibitors from corporate, government and academia, recruiters have a dynamic opportunity to reach African-American engineers on both the student and professional levels; and

 

WHEREAS, NSBEs annual programs and activities include a national convention, career fairs, career placement, regional conferences, over $250,000.00 in scholarships, academic excellence and research competitions and award winning publications; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby welcome the National Society of Black Engineers 25th Annual Convention and Career Fair to Kansas City; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council and that a copy hereof be presented to the National Society of Black Engineers in token of the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the dedication and support of African-American students, technical professionals and the community at large.
