ORDINANCE NO. 060861

 

Authorizing the Director of City Development to enter into a lease agreement with the Young Marines for classroom space located at Richards-Gebaur.

 

WHEREAS, the Richards-Gebaur Young Marines is a youth group for boys and girls led by Sgt. Russ Dykstra of the Kansas City Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, the Richards-Gebaur Young Marines is a branch of the National organization of the Young Marines and has been located at Richards Gebaur for several years; and

 

WHEREAS, the U.S. Marine Corps had been providing meeting and training space to this group during that time, but due to recent deployments and new assignments to the Marine Corps unit at Richards-Gebaur, the Marines are unable to continue providing that meeting space; and

 

WHEREAS, Building 926 located at the intersection of 155th Street and Hangar Road and currently controlled by City Development has a classroom, and offices that would enable the Young Marines to continue meeting at Richards-Gebaur and have their own meeting space; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the Director of City Development is authorized to enter into a $1.00 annual lease with the Richards-Gebaur Young Marines. The Young Marines organization will provide services to the community and maintain the building and surrounding land. All utilities and other expenses associated with the Young Marines program will be the responsibility of the Young Marines.
