RESOLUTION NO. 191055

 

Honoring Joseph Robinson for his dedicated service and commitment to Kansas City.

 

WHEREAS, Joseph Robinson is a life-long Missouri resident, Joe attended his grade school years in the Kansas City School District before moving north of the river with his mom, Agatha Robinson. Joe attended Eastgate Middle School and North Kansas City High School where he excelled in music and football; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe started college at Missouri Valley in Marshall, Missouri, where he joined Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity whose motto is “Culture for Service and Service for Humanity”. Later he returned to Kansas City where he tried many careers before starting with Outback Steakhouse as a table server 18 years ago. He has worked up through the ranks and today is the Owner/Operator of the Outback Steakhouse at Zona Rosa; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe was blessed at the age of 8 to have Jeff Cowan enter his life through Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Joe learned the value of giving back. Jeff got him involved in numerous activities including bell ringing for the Salvation Army and collecting toys and clothes for the less fortunate. In 1996, Jeff and Joe were named the Match of the Year for Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, for the last 7 years Joe has taken the days leading up to Thanksgiving to personally smoke turkeys for several non-profits in the Kansas City area. This is all done from his home, using his own equipment and supplies. He gets his daughters involved because he knows that children learn by example. On Wednesday, he delivers the meat to the various locations and has been known to stay and serve meals that evening; and

 

WHEREAS, Joe is supported in all his endeavors by his mother, his equally giving partner Emily Ray and his three children; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby acknowledge the importance of recognizing Joseph Robinson; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Joseph Robinson, in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for his many years of dedicated service and commitment for helping with The Voices of the People Annual Community Dinner.
