RESOLUTION NO. 100322
Expressing Council’s Interest in Creation of an Office of
School Support and Public Engagement.
WHEREAS, there are approximately
235 public, private and faith-based schools within the corporate limits of the
City of Kansas City, Missouri, and
WHEREAS, these schools serve as
vital anchors for our neighborhoods, communities and Kansas City as a whole,
and,
WHEREAS, the school board members,
superintendents, principals, staff, teachers and parents of these schools are
important resources to Kansas City government, and
WHEREAS, recent events illustrate that
these school board members, superintendents, principals, staff, teachers and
parents need more accessible lines of communication with City and other related
government officials; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI:
Section 1. That the Council recognizes
the importance of communications with our schools and the school board members,
superintendents, principals, staff, teachers and parents of these schools.
Section 2. That the Council hereby
expresses its desire for the creation of an Office of School Support and Public
Engagement within the City Manager’s Office and directs the City Manager to report
back to the City Council within sixty days of the passage of this resolution to
report on his progress toward creating such an Office, on the functions of such
an Office and on the funding and staffing needs arising out of the creation and
functions of such an Office.
