RESOLUTION NO. 930484
Honoring the Mexico Cities Aztecas basketball team for
visiting Kansas City to participate in basketball games to benefit the youth
of Kansas City through the Parks and Recreation Summer Sports Education
Program.
WHEREAS, the Mexico Cities Aztecas basketball team
is sponsored by former NBA basketball player, Reginald King, and Omnitrition
Products; and
WHEREAS, the Aztecas are comprised of the following
members: Jose Luis Cisneros, trainer; Rex Moore, assistant coach; Salvador
Aguirre, center; Andres Contreras, guard; Heriberto Martinez, guard; Arturo
Ibarra, guard; Jorge Manzano, center; Kevie Dixon, forward; Greg Carter,
forward; Anthony Villanueva, center; Diego Alcantara, forward; Salvador
Elguero, guard; Gerardo Oliva, guard; Alfonso Hans, guard; Javier Gonzalez,
guard; Ruben Castelan, trainer; Francisco Preciado, assistant trainer; Miguel
Hivalgo, general manager; and Reginald King, player coach.
WHEREAS, this team has travelled to Kansas City and
will be playing a benefit game to support the Kansas City, Missouri, Parks and
Recreation Summer Sports Education Program which provides Kansas City youth
with sports activities to heighten their awareness on such issues as AIDS and
drug abuse and also encourages positive mental attitudes and activities; and
WHEREAS, the Aztecas foster friendly international
relations by touring the United States and planning to visit Moscow next month;
NOW, THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby honor and thank
the Mexico Cities Aztecas basketball team for travelling to Kansas City to play
in a game to benefit the youth of Kansas City.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be
spread upon the minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy
hereof be presented to the Mexico Cities Aztecas basketball team as a token of
