RESOLUTION NO. 060170

 

Commending Sarah Demarest Guthrie for her years of service to Acadmie Lafayette, Kansas Citys Foreign Language Charter School and to its Board of Directors.

 

WHEREAS, Sarah Guthrie has served as an active and dedicated volunteer and Board Member to Acadmie Lafayette for the past 9 years; and

 

WHEREAS, Sarah Guthrie set about to create a library staffed with volunteers and stocked with donations for the children of Acadmie Lafayette, nurturing its growth to its current status as a member of the Kansas City Public Library system; and

 

WHEREAS, Sarah Guthrie worked as a member of the Building Committee during the acquisition of the JC Nichols School building, coordinating a successful building fund campaign resulting in the raising of more than $800,000.00 in cash, pledges and in-kind donations for the new building; and

 

WHEREAS, Sarah Guthrie successfully wrote grant winning proposals resulting in the pilot Family Violence Prevention Program, a collaborative effort with Baptist Trinity Lutheran Legacy Foundation whose funding contributed to a building Social Worker, Bist Counselor and full-time Nurse for the past three years; and

 

WHEREAS, Sarah Guthrie has taken the concept of fund-raising to new limits, successfully funding a new playground, the Musketeer Fund, the Charno Family fountain, and various other under-funded yet desperately needed projects; and

 

WHEREAS, Sarah Guthrie has shared her passion, her joy and her unending enthusiasm with the Acadmie Lafayette, strengthening their standing in the Kansas City, immersion education and world communities to which it belongs; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby commend Sarah Demarest Guthrie for her years of service to Acadmie Lafayette, Kansas Citys Foreign Language Charter School and to its Board of Directors; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Sarah Demarest Guthrie with the highest respect and appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for her many accomplishments in the community.
