RESOLUTION NO. 110640

 

Urging the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners to make available community centers throughout the City for Friday evening and Saturday evening programming for middle school-aged and high school-aged young people; urging the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners to seek out and work with organizations interested in the wellbeing of young people to support appropriate programs for those times; and directing the City Manager to identify funds for City support of such programming.

 

WHEREAS, recent events have exposed a need for organized activities for young people on Friday and Saturday evenings; and

 

WHEREAS, the City alone cannot provide the necessary programming, but must work with faith-based organizations, and youth organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, YWCA and YMCA, and other organizations; and

 

WHEREAS, the current City budget does not have specific funding for new programming; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the Mayor and Council urge the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners to make available community centers throughout the City for Friday evening and Saturday evening programming for middle school-aged and high school-aged young people.

 

Section 2. That the Mayor and Council urge the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners to seek out and work with other organizations interested in the wellbeing of young people to support appropriate programs for Friday evening and Saturday evening.

 

Section 3. That the City Manager is directed to identify funding for new youth programming to support these new activities.
