RESOLUTION NO. 030476

 

Honoring Dwayne A. Crompton for his outstanding work and community service to Kansas City and being the recipient of the National Association for the Education of Young Children Award.

 

WHEREAS, Dwayne Crompton has dedicated his career and life to the advancement of social issues, specially for the very young; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Crompton has been Executive Director of the KCMC Child Development Corporation for the past 23 years and under his leadership has started many new programs including Project Head Start in Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties, the administration of the Federal Child and Adult Care Food Program in 20 western Missouri counties; the administration of a private-public sector child-care partnership called Full Start, construction of the Thomas Roque Building for a family and child development resource center, the construction of the James I. Threatt Early Education and Care Resource Building; and a partnership with the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority in constructing a child and family development center; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Crompton has national recognition in the child-care profession and serves as president of the prestigious Governing Board of the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition, is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the National Black Child Development Institute, the Black Communitys Crusade for Children and is frequently called to give testimony on child-care legislation pending before local, state and government bodies; and

 

WHEREAS, in recognition of Mr. Cromptons many accomplishments and community services, he has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Distinguished Alumni Award of the Lincoln University Alumni Association, the Missouri Legislative Black Caucus Jordan-McNeal Award, the Distinguished Alumni Citation from the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education in Washington, D.C., the Greater Kansas City Urban Leagues Image Award for Economic Development, the Up and Comers Award, the Children Defense Funds Innovative Leadership Award, The Charles N. Kimball Founders Award for outstanding leadership, the Edward A. Smith Award for Excellence in Nonprofit Leadership, and was listed among the 100 Most Influential Afro-Americans (locally) for four consecutive years; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Dwayne A. Crompton for his outstanding work and community service to Kansas City and being the recipient of the National Association for the Education of Young Children Award; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dwayne A. Crompton with the congratulations of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for his remarkable accomplishments in serving the citizens of Kansas City.
