RESOLUTION NO. 060132

 

Recognizing the established partnership cultivated between the University of Missouri Kansas City and the City of Kansas City, Missouri by committing to continually build upon the strategic alliance to the greatest benefit of the Kansas City community.

 

WHEREAS, UMKC is the only public research university that shares its name with the City of Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

WHEREAS, both UMKC and KCMO are committed to elevating social awareness, citizen involvement, youth development, equality of economic opportunity, an educated workforce, and improving community services and development; and

 

WHEREAS, UMKC and KCMO, combining strengths and resources will find new and better ways to serve the Kansas City community and accelerate its social progress; and

 

WHEREAS, UMKC offers research-based best practice recommendations and innovative solutions to community issues faced by Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, UMKC is an objective, independent resource with Kansas Citys best interests in mind that KCMO can rely on to assist with community concerns; and

 

WHEREAS, through open exchange and true cooperation, KCMO citizens and UMKC students and faculty benefit from the application of UMKCs academic expertise to municipal government services and operations; and

 

WHEREAS, a successful history of joint projects facilitated by The Center for the City at UMKC, including the City Internship Program, the Housing Inventory, the Housing Task Force, service-learning projects related to Urban Planning, Computing and Engineering, Health and Economic Development, in addition to, grants for youth development, mentorship, community liaisons, cooperation with athletic fields and sports training, City staff serving as guest speakers, lecturers and advisory committee members, and UMKC faculty and staff serving on City boards and commissions, would not have been possible without this constructive relationship; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the established partnership between the University of Missouri Kansas City and the City of Kansas City, Missouri and commit to building and strengthening this strategic alliance to the greatest benefit of the Kansas City community; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dr. Guy H. Bailey, UMKC Chancellor.
