RESOLUTION NO. 030220
Authorizing the Mayor to
submit a grant application to the Maryland Crime Victims Resource Center, Inc,
for a U.S. Department of Justice Collaborative Response to Crime in Urban Areas
Grant in the amount of $160,000.00 with no match from the City for three
positions for Victims Advocates assistance.
WHEREAS, the U.S.
Department of Justice awarded the Maryland Crime Victims Resource Center,
Inc., a Collaborative Response to Crime in Urban Areas Grant to create a
competitive process for the selection of five high crime urban sites across the
United States; the selected sites will link public agencies and crime victims
service providers with faith-based community services to meet victims needs;
and
WHEREAS, the U.S.
Department of Justice awarded these funds at the federal level to the Maryland
Crime Victims Resource Center, Inc., to create a competitive process for the
selection of five high crime urban sites across the United States; and
WHEREAS, Kansas
City, Missouri, is an eligible applicant under the rules and regulations; and
WHEREAS, there is
a sufficient number of citizens of Kansas City, Missouri, who are victims of
crimes who could benefit under the provisions of the Collaborative Response to
Crime in Urban Areas Grant; and
WHEREAS, it is in
the best interest of Kansas City, Missouri, and its citizens to apply for a
grant from the Maryland Crime Victims Resource Center, Inc., to secure
assistance for its less fortunate citizens who have suffered physical or mental
injury through acts which are in violation of criminal laws; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor is
authorized to submit a grant application to the Maryland Crime Victims
Resource Center, Inc., for a U. S. Department of Justice Collaborative
Response to Crime in Urban Areas Grant in the amount of $160,000.00 with no
match from the City for three positions for Victims Advocates assistance.
