RESOLUTION NO. 160434

 

Honoring Mark VanLoh on his retirement after 12 years of dedicated service to the City of Kansas City, Missouri as Director of Aviation.

WHEREAS, during Mark’s 12 year tenure as Director of Aviation, the longest in the Department’s history, airport revenues increased by 100 percent and capital projects at City airports provided approximately $606 million in construction and design opportunities for the local job force including such major projects as completion of the KCI Terminal Renovation Project in 2004, on time and under budget, completion of the KCI Consolidated Rental Car Facility, and renovation of the Charles B. Wheeler airport runways and taxiways and adding over 100 new general aviation hangars; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark, an Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) has been responsible for acquiring approximately $165.3 million in FAA grants, for economic development at KCI bringing maintenance jobs back to Kansas City with Jet Midwest and ATS, developing the KCI Intermodal Facility with Trammell Crow for over 400 jobs, purchasing and developing the Ambassador Building; and sale and development of Richards Gebaur Airport; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark has been involved in aviation matters nationally and locally as a committee board member with ACI-NA, American Association of Airport Executives, Northland Chamber of Commerce, Kansas City Area Development Council, Platte County EDC, Clay County EDC, and the University of Central Missouri Aviation Program Board of Advisors; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark became a licensed pilot while serving in the U.S. Army 1st Calvary Division and 82nd Field Artillery and began his 31-year aviation career with Pan American Airlines and has been director at Chattanooga, Cleveland and Toledo-Lucas County airports; and

 

WHEREAS, Mark’s dedication, knowledge and hard work has earned him the respect and admiration of his co-workers, the community and the airport industry.

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby extend to Mr. Mark VanLoh on the occasion of his retirement from City service, best wishes and appreciation for his 12 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Kansas City; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mr. Mark VanLoh in token of the Mayor and Council’s respect and high regard and their best wishes for the future.
