RESOLUTION NO. 100876
Congratulating
the Beta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., on their 90th
anniversary.
WHEREAS,
the Beta Omega Chapter was organized on October 14, 1920, and was previously
known as the Lambda Graduate Chapter before changing its name in 1922; and
WHEREAS,
since the inception of Beta Omega it has supported the activities of the
Supreme Basileus’ program theme and encompassed the thrusts of economics,
education, the Black family, and health; and
WEHREAS,
the Beta Omega Chapter make financial contributions to various organizations
throughout the Kansas City metro area including working with the St. James
Place Soup Kitchen; and
WHEREAS,
Beta Omega is a Life Member of the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People and in 1951 Beta Omega and Mu Omega initiated the Debutante
Ball; and
WHEREAS,
for the past fifty years, the Debutante Ball has awarded thousands of dollars
in scholarships and made an impact upon the lives of hundreds of young ladies;
and
WHEREAS,
Beta Omega’s community services projects include supporting the arts, aide to
the homeless, college scholarships and other endeavors that serve to validate
the vision, dedication and integrity of its founders; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor, Soror Sharon Sanders Brooks and Council hereby congratulate
the Beta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., on their 90th
anniversary; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Sandra
Jiles with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City
for all the outstanding work being done by Beta Omega to make our community a
better place to live.
