RESOLUTION NO. 040246
Stating
the Councils appreciation for a free, public voter-registration party to be
held March 8, 2004, at the Liberty Memorial Museum, sponsored by the Greater
Kansas City Chapter of the Missouri Restaurant Association/Cooperative Chapter
of the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association, and by the Liberty
Memorial Association.
WHEREAS,
our system of representative democracy calls for the greatest possible
participation by each citizen in the democratic process through voting; and
WHEREAS,
the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the Missouri Restaurant Association/
Cooperative Chapter of the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association has
joined with the Liberty Memorial Association to sponsor a free, public party to
assist and encourage area residents (both Missouri and Kansas) to register to
vote; and
WHEREAS,
the voter-registration party is to be held at the Liberty Memorial Museum from
3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 8, in time for registrants to appear on voter
rolls for the City election on April 6, 2004; and
WHEREAS,
the April 6 election will decide several issues that will have significant
impact on the future of Kansas City, including the issuance of bonds to fund
repairs and maintenance to City infrastructure, upgrade facilities at the
Kansas City Zoo, and complete the construction of a state-of-the-art Liberty
Memorial Museum; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council encourage all Kansas Citians to take advantage of the
opportunities offered by the March 8 voter-registration party or other
opportunities such as those offered by local election boards, to register and
then exercise their previous right to vote; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council and that a copy thereof be presented to representatives of the Greater
Kansas City Chapter of the Missouri Restaurant Association/Cooperative Chapter
of the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association, and the Liberty Memorial
Association, in appreciation of their efforts to spread the franchise to all
eligible citizens.
