RESOLUTION NO. 130588

Congratulating Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City for years of giving back locally.

WHEREAS, since 1993, the Greater Kansas City affiliate has been working to increase the awareness of breast cancer issues in the Greater Kansas City Service Area; and

WHEREAS, for the past 20 years, the affiliate has continued to fund a variety of programs focused solely on breast health education, screening and/or treatment for medically vulnerable populations; and

 

WHEREAS, to date, the Greater Kansas City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen has contributed more than $10 million to local breast health programs and education in the Greater Kansas City area; and

 

WHEREAS, 75 percent of net proceeds raised stays in the Kansas City Service Area to fund outreach programs and initiatives that address the specific unmet breast health needs of the community and 25 percent of net proceeds supports the Susan G. Komen Award and Research Grants Program to fund the most innovative national breast cancer research; and

 

WHEREAS, the annual Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City Race for the Cure has more than 20,000 participants each year; and

WHEREAS, Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City will officially mark its 20th Race anniversary on Sunday, August 11, 2013; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the affiliate City for 20 years of giving back locally; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Laurie Roberts, Board President, with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the Affiliate’s continued presence in our community.
