RESOLUTION NO. 010212
Congratulating Thomas R.
Bean, AIA/KC 2000 President, for his exemplary commitment to architecture and
public art in Kansas City and in particular for his efforts leading to the publication
of the American Institute of Architects Guide to Kansas Citys Architecture and
Public Art.
WHEREAS, Thomas
R. Bean has been City Architect since 1980 and has continuously demonstrated
his commitment to architecture and public art in Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, Thomas
R. Bean during his distinguished tenure as City Architect has championed the
importance of Kansas Citys Architecture and Public Art in identifying the
Citys character and providing a view to our rich past and our prosperous
future; and
WHEREAS, Thomas
R. Bean has observed that since 1979, when the last Guide to Architecture in
Kansas City was published, Kansas City has experienced investment in new
architecture and public art while sadly losing some important and spectacular
architecture in the City; and
WHEREAS, in
celebration of Kansas Citys 150th birthday, in August of 1999 Thomas R. Bean
commenced efforts to update the Guide to Kansas Citys Architecture and Public
Art, and spearheaded fund raising, production and publication of a new guide;
and
WHEREAS, through
Thomas R. Beans zealous efforts, contributions for the Guide totaling
$180,000.00 were received and new research and photography covering 20 years
was completed, culminating in the publication and delivery of a new American
Institute of Architects Guide to Kansas Citys Architecture and Public Art by
December 2000; and
WHEREAS, through
Thomas R. Beans unselfish efforts the citizens of Kansas City now enjoy a
wonderful guide to their architecture and public art that has preserved these
treasures for educators, the public and professionals across the United States;
NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby congratulate Thomas R. Bean, AIA, on his exemplary efforts
which led to the publication of the American Institute of Architects Guide to
Kansas Citys Architecture and Public Art; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Thomas R. Bean, AIA,
head of the Architectural Division in appreciation of these efforts and his
outstanding performance.
