RESOLUTION NO. 100076

 

Honoring Corinthian Hall, former residence of Robert A. Long and his family, and the historic home of the Kansas City Museum on its 100th anniversary.

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Museum will be celebrating the “century mark” each month in 2010 with a dynamic series of lectures, workshops, books, films and seminars to highlight Corinthian Hall’s unique architecture and the Long family’s deep and abiding commitment to the civic well-being of Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, over 16,000 visitors were welcomed in the on-site Visitor Center during 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, the Museum has continued the “Community Curator” program that makes the collections accessible in print, on-line and in-person at guest lectures; and

 

WHEREAS, the Museum has sustained its partnership with KCPT-TV in the Museum’s StoryTarium offering KC history-based films free of charge to Museum visitors and expanding its partnership with the Kansas City Public Library to provide history-based activities with an historic seminar about Corinthian Hall and a live broadcast of the Walt Bodine Show; and

 

WHEREAS, in 2009, the Museum opened an outdoor panel exhibition on the Long estate to provide interpretative experience while the main house is being renovated; and

 

WHEREAS, over the past year several exciting projects were completed which included publishing “Loula Long, Fashion Paper Doll Collection” and “Natural History on the Head”, as well as hosting a fall conference for national museum colleagues and completing an interpretative planning process with the Kansas City Museum Advisory Board; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Corinthian Hall, former residence of Robert A. Long and his family, and the historic home of the Kansas City Museum on its 100th anniversary; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Christopher Leitch in token of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City’s appreciation for the many years of service to the community.
