RESOLUTION NO. 090975

 

Honoring Ellen and Michael R. Herron on their retirements after 31 years of service to the Parks and Recreation Department.

 

WHEREAS, Ellen Herron began her career in Parks and Recreation in 1978 working in the Administration Division; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael R. Herron began his career in Parks and Recreation in 1978 working as a Municipal Management Trainee; and

 

WHEREAS, over the course of her career, Ellen has worked for the Superintendent of Forestry and Landscaping and the Superintendent of Construction and Development; and

 

WHEREAS, for the past sixteen years, Ellen has worked for District #4 Maintenance Headquarters doing extensive public contact, reserving shelter houses and the Showwagon as well as daily field operations paper shuffling; and

 

WHEREAS, some of Ellen’s recent undertakings include the Departmental Hearing Officer, Chairperson of the Accident Review Committee, Employee Recognition Committee Coordinator, Departmental Drug and Alcohol Liaison and Travel Coordinator; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael worked his way up through the Department with some of his titles being Park District Manager, Acting Superintendent of Parks Management, Acting Assistant to the Director, Manager of Boulevard Services, Park Superintendent of Horticultural and Boulevard Services, and Manager, North Region; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael’s final appointment in 2009 was to the Natural Resources Management Division as Manager; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael was instrumental in formulating, establishing and managing a nationally recognized contractual services program that provides approximately $2.16 million of grounds maintenance services year-round on over 2500 acres of park property and in formulating and establishing S.H.A.P.E., a quality control self-inspection program that evaluates the condition of public parks and facilities; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Ellen and Michael R. Herron on their retirements after 31 years of service to the Parks and Recreation Department; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Ellen and Michael R. Herron in token of the Mayor and Council’s respect and high regard and their best wishes for the long and happy retirements which they so richly deserve.
