COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR RESOLUTION NO. 980705
Stating
the intent of the City to expand the boundaries of the Claycomo Satellite
Enterprise Zone to encourage additional investment by the Ford Motor Company at
its Kansas City Assembly Facility.
WHEREAS,
the Ford Motor Company has shown its commitment to the State of Missouri and
the Kansas City area in particular by creating at the Kansas City Assembly
Facility over 5,100 good-paying jobs with an annual payroll of almost $290
million; and
WHEREAS,
the Kansas City Assembly Facility generates over $10.6 million annually in tax
revenue to taxing jurisdictions while producing almost 420,000 vehicles
annually; and
WHEREAS,
the Ford Motor Company and its employees have further shown their commitment to
the area by annually contributing $500,000.00 to the United Way and $640,000.00
to area community relations efforts; and
WHEREAS,
the City of Kansas City, Missouri, has previously shown its support for the
Ford Motor Company by designating in 1990 the Kansas City Assembly Facility in
Claycomo as a Satellite Enterprise Zone to encourage investment by Ford Motor
Company in a vehicle paint facility; and
WHEREAS,
the City further supported Ford in 1994 by expanding the Claycomo Satellite
Enterprise Zone to encourage investment in a truck assembly facility; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the significant economic impact of the
Ford Motor Company Kansas City Assembly Facility to the areas economy and
quality of life. The Mayor and Council further state the Citys intent to
encourage further investment by Ford Motor Company at the Kansas City Assembly
Facility by expanding the boundaries of the Claycomo Satellite Enterprise Zone
to include additional property at Fords facility.
