RESOLUTION NO. 010618
Honoring
Larry DeWitt, Street Restoration Engineer for the Public Works Department,
Street and Traffic Division for his 37 years of professionalism and dedication.
WHEREAS,
Larry DeWitt has announced his retirement from the City of Kansas City,
Missouri after 37 years of service to the City; and
WHEREAS,
since beginning his service with the City of Kansas City, Missouri, in June,
1964 as a Draftsman in the old Traffic Department, he transferred to the Public
Works Department as a Drafting Aide III. After completing his BS degree in
civil engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia, he was reclassified
to an engineering position in 1978 and transferred to the Street Preservation
Section in May, 1981, where be became its section head in 1983; and
WHEREAS,
as part of his duties, Larry has obtained an excellent knowledge of the street
conditions of Kansas City. This knowledge has allowed him to make the best
decisions when it comes to determining the best treatment for street repair on
any given street; and
WHEREAS,
Larry has developed a resurfacing, slurry seal, crack sealing and concrete
replacement program that addresses the streets most in need of repair; and
WHEREAS,
in 1995, Larry received the Samuel L. Greeley Government Service award from the
American Public Works Association; and
WHEREAS,
during his 37 years, Larry has received numerous compliments from citizens and
contractors with whom he works as well as been an excellent mentor to the staff
that reports to him; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council hereby honor and commend Larry DeWitt for his 37 years
of dedicated professional service to the City of Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to him in
token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for a job well done.
