RESOLUTION NO. 110323

Expressing appreciation to the Honorable Deb Hermann for her service as the Councilmember representing the First District-At-Large.

WHEREAS, Deb Hermann came to the City Council having served as an innovative neighborhood leader, a pioneer in the community policing movement, a thoughtful member of the City Plan Commission, and a dynamic Chair of the Property Maintenance Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, Deb has served with distinction as the Councilmember for the First District At-Large since her election in 2003 and her re-election in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Deb, as Chair of the Neighborhood Development and Housing Committee in her first term and as Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee in her second term, steadfastly led the City through periods of turmoil and change, displaying throughout her trademark standards of honesty, transparency and accountability; and

WHEREAS, as Neighborhood Development and Housing Chair, Deb held back a tide of unrest during the meltdown of the Housing Department and the subsequent federal receivership, all the while seeking alternative solutions for hurting neighborhoods throughout the City; and

WHEREAS, as Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, Deb inspired the staff and her Council colleagues in balancing four of the most difficult budgets in the City’s history, making wrenching decisions in a calm and deliberate manner despite the painful loss of valuable employees and serious sacrifices by citizens; and

WHEREAS, during the course of her chairmanships, Deb became a model of decorum and efficiency, on one occasion concluding a committee meeting in the record-breaking time of 56 seconds; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby express their heartfelt and sincere appreciation to Councilwoman Deb Hermann for the countless hours of dedicated and distinguished public service she has selflessly given to the citizens of Kansas City during her eight years in office; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Councilwoman Deb Hermann as a token of the high esteem in which she is held by the Mayor, Council, staff and citizens of Kansas City, Missouri.
