RESOLUTION NO. 030154

Recognizing and commending the efforts of the Neighborhood Assessment Team and sending them back into the community with gratitude and good wishes.

WHEREAS, the Strategic and Comprehensive Plan of Kansas City was completed by a 30-member FOCUS Steering Committee based on the active involvement and input of over 3,000 citizens; and

WHEREAS, on October 30, 1997, the City Council of Kansas City, Missouri unanimously adopted the Strategic and Comprehensive Plan known as FOCUS Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, one of the recommendations of the plan is to facilitate a continuous self-improvement process for neighborhoods, which process has been named FOCUS Neighborhood Self-assessment; and

WHEREAS, this process allows the workshop participants to identify a list of priorities for themselves, the community, and the City of Kansas City, Missouri, which are calculated to improve their neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, this FOCUS initiative has been implemented by a team of talented City employees, led by long-time activist Diane Charity, and includes Sharon Cheers, John Pajor, Suzy Latare, Willie Mae Conway, Lindsey Cook, and Jermine Alberty; and

WHEREAS, this tireless team has conducted assessment workshops in over 200 of the Citys neighborhoods, and as of February 11, 2003, will conclude their service to the City as the assessment team; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize and commend the efforts of the Neighborhood Assessment Team and send them back into the community with gratitude and good wishes; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to the Neighborhood Assessment Team in recognition and commendation of the efforts of the nearly 5000 residents and businesses in Kansas City neighborhoods who committed their time and talents to working with one another and with the assessment team to create a strategy to improve the community.
