RESOLUTION NO. 990374

Honoring Mary Edith Lillis for her valued services to the citizens of Kansas City, Missouri, through her work in the Parks and Recreation Department.

 

WHEREAS, two-score and five years ago a recent graduate from the College of St. Teresa (now Avila) joined the full times ranks of the Recreation Division of the Welfare Department, City of Kansas City, Missouri, and Mary Edith has been with the City ever since; and

 

WHEREAS, recently, Mary Edith received her 45 year pin, a recognition of her years of continuous service to the City. In fact, only one other City employee has been on the job longer than Mary Edith; and

 

WHEREAS, Mary Edith is Superintendent of Recreation and is responsible for the specialized services division of the Parks Department. In that role, Mary Edith supervises the staff and operations at the Liberty Memorial Monument and Loose Park Garden Center and became a life member of the Garden Center Association to ensure the membership of her interest and is an avid supporter of the Liberty Memorial where high over a painted scene standing next to Harry Truman is her great uncle, Bishop of Kansas City, Thomas Lillis; and

 

WHEREAS, every company or agency wishes they had a Mary Edith Lillis but only the Parks Department can stake claim to her. She is known as much for her tireless work ethic as she is for her longevity; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Mary Edith Lillis on her commitment, dedication and service to Kansas City, Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mary Edith Lillis in appreciation of her service to the citizens of Kansas City Missouri.
