RESOLUTION NO. 130073

 

Honoring Dr. Sarita Graham for her many years of dedication to helping the homeless in the community.

WHEREAS, Dr. Sarita Graham has served in ministry and counseling for 15 years and operates three faith-based transitional living facilities for women and men recovering from the trauma of war, domestic violence, mental health and substance abuse issues; and

WHEREAS, she has been evangelizing since 1989 through various shelters, drug treatment centers and prison ministries while teaching and training small groups to change their communities; and

WHEREAS, she is the founder and CEO of Sarita’Lynne Ministries, a Christ-centered, non-profit organization founded in 2002 and is dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men and women; and

WHEREAS, on January 31, 2013, Sarita’Lynne Ministries held an open house for the Joshua's Safe Haven facility, which provides a Christian living environment for men, while providing the tools to develop healthy and positive social relationships through recovery; and

WHEREAS, Sarita’Lynne Ministries opened The Princess House, named after her deceased daughter, in January 2005 and has since added two other facilities for homeless individuals; and

WHEREAS, Joshua’s Safe Haven provides a faith-based, family focused living environment and uses a combination of faith in God, supportive family, in-patient/out-patient/after-care treatment, and recovery support with the assistance of diligent community-based resources; and  

WHEREAS, Joshua’s Safe Haven offers an environment where LOVE heals, creating a life that is clean, sober, self-sufficient and equipped with skills to build a life independent from drugs, alcohol or re-entry of prison; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Dr. Sarita Graham for her many years of dedication to helping homeless men and women in the community; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dr. Sarita Graham with the best wishes of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for her continued success in helping people in our community overcome their various addictions.
