Honoring Lara Bradshaw Schopp.
WHEREAS, Lara
Bradshaw Schopp began her work with the City of Kansas City, Missouri in 1998,
when she served as editor and writer for the City Communications Office. Laras
responsibilities included a host of tasks, including the writing, editing and
production of the employee newsletter, internal communications, and working
with the production staff of the government channel, as well as communicating
with media representatives; and
WHEREAS, in the
spring of 1999, Lara began her tenure as Press Secretary for then newly-elected
Mayor Kay Barnes. Lara took on this challenging role, and she excelled at her
work. Over the past eight years, Lara has been responsible for handling not
only the public relations aspects of the Mayors Office, but also for writing all
press releases, speeches and articles, fielding calls from countless reporters
with local as well as national media, and for providing a strategic
communication structure. In addition to the duties of a press secretary, Lara
managed the Mayors Christmas Tree charity and worked with numerous civic
organizations in the planning and coordination of special events that required
the Mayors participation. Among Laras most impressive accomplishments was the
Citys entry for the 2006 World Leadership Forum presented by the Mayor at the
international competition in London. Lara pursued every aspect of her work with
utmost professionalism, and her presence in the Mayors Office was always
characterized by her warm personality, good humor, and the acumen she brought
to a very demanding job; and
WHEREAS, during
her time in the Mayors Office, Lara earned a Masters degree in Communication
Studies from the University of Kansas, and, among other significant
achievements, raised over $5,000.00 for research by participating in two Three
Day Breast Cancer walks; and
WHEREAS, Lara
Schopp will begin a new stage of her career this month when she assumes the
position of Communications Director for the Country Club Christian Church of
Kansas City, Missouri; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council do hereby salute Lara Schopp and extend to her their appreciation,
gratitude and respect for her work on behalf of Mayor Barnes and the City of
Kansas City, Missouri.
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Lara Schopp with
appropriate recognition and appreciation.
