Honoring the Fall 2012 Midwest
Quad Conference of the American Institute of Architecture Students: Growing
Communities.
WHEREAS, in
2012, a group of 300 architecture students from the Midwest Region were brought
together in Kansas City, by the University of Kansas Chapter of the AIAS with
the support and sponsorship of many offices and organizations in Kansas City
and elsewhere, to discuss the future of the Profession of Architecture; and
WHEREAS, from
there these students pursued four goals: supplementary architectural education
focusing on sustainability and urban agriculture, professional development,
realistic sustainable design strategies through the use of local case studies,
and the strengthening of the community of future professionals; and
WHEREAS, the
organization of AIAS provides support and opportunities to their fellow
emerging professionals within the architecture community; and
WHEREAS, today,
there is a network of more than 7,000 students in the United States within the
American Institute of Architecture Students who make up the member network,
unified under common goals; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and
Council hereby honor the Fall 2012 Midwest Quad Conference of the American
Institute of Architecture Students: Growing Communities; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Midwest Regional
Chapter with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the
growing numbers of students studying architecture in this community.
