Honoring the Cabot Westside Clinic on its 90th
Anniversary.
WHEREAS, the Cabot Westside Clinic was founded in
1906 by eleven women who formed the St. Luke's Hospital Club which began as an open-air
camp for sick children; and
WHEREAS, the mission of Cabot Westside Clinic is to
provide comprehensive primary health care, preventive health education and
social welfare services to residents of the Westside and Hispanics of the
Greater Kansas City area in a culturally and linguistically sensitive manner;
and
WHEREAS, Cabot Westside Clinic provided medical and
dental services to 3,932 persons who made 11,947 visits in 1995. This
represents a twelve percent increase from 1994. At Cabot Westside Clinic,
eighty-two percent of the people cared for were women and children under 17.
Eighty-six percent of our clients are Hispanic and monolingual; and
WHEREAS, Cabot's dental program provided
comprehensive oral health care, ranging from cleaning teeth to making dentures
for 1,302 patients during 1995; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby extend to Cabot
Westside Clinic their most heartfelt congratulations on its 90th Anniversary;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be
spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies
hereof be presented to Marco Listrom, Board President, David Reese, Executive
Director, Hope Zapien, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Hilda Fuentes-Brown,
Director of Development, BeaMarie Mejia Mayer, Second Vice-President, with the
best wishes of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City.
